THE VAULT MarketS

The Vault Markets is a contemporary community hub designed to bring together commerce, faith and social life within the heart of an established Muslim neighbourhood. Reinterpreting the traditional marketplace, the proposal creates a vibrant destination that supports independent retail, community events and everyday gathering.

At its centre, a large open market sits beneath a series of glazed brick vaults, creating a light-filled civic space with a strong architectural identity. Above, the vaulted roof becomes a landscaped community garden punctuated by a series of cube-shaped prayer pavilions, offering spaces for reflection within a calm, elevated setting. A continuous frontage of permanent retail units activates the surrounding streets, strengthening the relationship between the development and the existing urban fabric.

The project explores how architecture can celebrate cultural identity through materiality, public space and contemporary interpretations of traditional forms, creating a destination that serves both the local community and the wider city.
